The 82kWh BYD Seal Joins The Dolphin In Europe!
A few days ago, BYD announced that its new 60 kWh C-segment hatchback, the Dolphin, is coming to Europe. Now BYD has announced that its D-segment sedan, the Seal, is also coming to Europe later this year. The European version of the Seal will have an 82 kWh battery pack with a combined WLTP range of 570 km (2WD) or 520 km (AWD). Both the BYD Dolphin and the Seal utilise the e-Platform 3.0 as standard. The Dolphin is based on cell-to-pack (CTP) battery technology, whilst the BYD Seal uses the advanced cell-to-body (CTB) technology. The benefit of this advanced CTB technology is that the vehicle’s body is lower, for better aerodynamics and range while increasing body rigidity for enhanced safety. The design offers more cabin space due to reduced battery pack volume. The BYD Seal (AWD) also has an 8-in-1 electric powertrain with dual motors providing a combined power of 230/390 kW or 313/531 PS. Both the Seal and the Dolphin have BYD’s revolutionary Blade Battery.
Pre-sales of the BYD Dolphin starts in the summer, and the delivery will be from Q4 2023, with the Seal following soon after. BYD is now building up its presence in Europe and expanding its offering there following the launch of the Atto 3 SUV in several markets in Europe last year. BYD products are now available in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, the UK, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, and Spain, with more to follow imminently.
The Atto 3 has already won several awards in Europe. The Flemish Automobile Club (VAB) holds the coveted contest every year for the best family cars in different categories. They voted the BYD Atto 3 the 2023 Family Car of the Year. BYD also scored a deal for 100,000 cars with SIXT. The cooperation between SIXT and BYD has started with an initial order from SIXT for several thousand pure-electric BYD cars. It is anticipated that this preliminary order will be further supplemented by SIXT with an additional 100,000 BYD electric vehicles over the next six years. The addition of the Seal and the Dolphin to the European market now increases the number of models that could be added to this partnership.

These two models offer more choices and value to consumers in the important volume market segments.”

The BYD Seal has been receiving some good reviews in China. It started pretty well, registering good order numbers and sales since its launch last year. In fact, it had a blistering start in China. In its first month, the Seal had an impressive 1,726 sales. It then followed up with sales of 7,473 units in September, 11,267 in October, 15,356 in November, and 15,378 in December. The sales total for the Seal’s first 5 months was an awesome 51,200, which is pretty cool for a new model in early production ramp-up mode.
However, in an increasingly competitive market in China, the sales of the Seal look to have stalled a bit. In January, the Seal sold 6,618 units, then 7,754 in February and just over 5,000 units in March. The Seal also recently got some big discounts in China recently amid the ongoing “price war” there. We hope sales of the Seal pick up soon in China, but for now, it’s really good to hear that the Seal is coming to Europe this year.
