First was the short-lived, 2014-2016, very cool looking ELR plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV). Then in 2017 along came the CT6 PHEV , an electrified version of Cadillac’s full-size, flagship sedan, but 2019 saw the end of this car. Cadillac says “the sense of occasion that is of an Escalade is repeated in Lyriq.”

The XTS Platinum concept’s plug-in hybrid electric propulsion system (PHEV) builds on the experience Cadillac has gained with the Escalade Hybrid and Escalade Platinum Hybrid flagship models (which also feature the two-mode system). V-6 Direct Injection gasoline engine paired with a plug-in two-mode hybrid system.

Pop-out door handles hint that the designers have created a low-drag shape to maximise the range, while the split rear lamps mimic the car-maker’s flagship Escalade iQ. Early reports suggest the Optiq will measure in at 4821mm long, and have a generous 2954mm wheelbase that maximises space within.

Glad to see the variety & availability of electic commuter cars (vs hybrids & PHEV) is rising. Since most families have at least two cars now, I foresee an electric commuter car and an ICE road trip car (you know, an Escalade or Dodge Ram crew cab ;o) in the future.
