In a study published in the journal Science of the Total Environment , researchers led by Surrey’s Global Center for Clean Air Research (GCARE) investigated air pollution exposure levels for commuters in 10 different global cities: Dhaka (Bangladesh); Chennai (India); Guangzhou (China); Medellín (Colombia); São Paulo (Brazil); Cairo (Egypt); Sulaymaniyah (Iraq); Addis Ababa (Ethiopia); Blantyre (Malawi); and Dar-es-Salaam (Tanzania).

The world’s population is expected to increase by 2 billion persons in the next 30 years, from 7.7 billion currently to 9.7 billion in 2050, according to a new United Nations report.

AFED report: state of water resources in the Arab world is precarious and worsening

The Arab world is facing the prospect of severe water and food shortages unless rapid and effective measures are taken to address the region’s water scarcity dilemma, according to a report by the Arab Forum for Environment and Development (AFED). Alarmingly, the 2010 report of the Arab Forum for Environment and Development (AFED) has found that Arabs will face, as early as 2015, the condition of severe water scarcity, at which the annual per capita share will be less than 500 cubic meters.

GFEI was launched in 2009 as a partnership of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the International Energy Agency (IEA), the International Transport Forum (ITF) and FIA Foundation. The Global Fuel Economy Initiative ( GFEI ) ( earlier post ) launched its second three-year effort to improve vehicle fuel economy around the world at the International Transport Forum in Leipzig.
