Canoo has delivered its first Lifestyle Delivery Vehicles (LDVs) to commercial van and fleet rental company Kingbee, as the latest in the electric vehicle (EV) maker’s early deliveries.

After Canoo initially announced the 9,300-unit Kingbee order in 2022, the EV startup has officially delivered the first of its LDVs to the company, according to a press release shared on Wednesday. The LDV 130 units are set to begin being used in Kingbee’s rental fleet, and Canoo plans to deliver more units to the company throughout 2024 as it ramps up operations at its new Oklahoma manufacturing facility.

“We are proud that an increasing number of our vehicles are on the roads of America, and we are looking forward to our vehicles joining Kingbee and its impressive list of customers,” said Tony Aquila, Canoo CEO, Investor and Executive Chairman. “Our vehicles are engineered for service workers, and optimized for safety, reliability, and comfort. This is what distinguishes our vehicles and provides a competitive edge for commercial fleet companies.”

The 9,300-vehicle sale agreement also includes the option to increase its order to 18,600 vehicles as available from Canoo. Upon receipt of the EVs, Kingbee plans to “upfit, custom wrap and deliver” the LDVs to other companies as a part of its work-ready fleet rental service.

“We are excited for the opportunity to help fleets transition to electric vehicles. Fleets of all sizes use Kingbee as a flexible option for vehicle acquisition, and we’re honored to be among the first to add Canoo to our EV portfolio,” said Scott Haslam, Kingbee CEO.

It’s not entirely clear from the press release how many units Canoo has delivered, and the company has not yet responded to Teslarati’s request for comment.

Canoo has been delivering small volumes of its LDVs over the past couple of years, and it delivered the first units built at its Oklahoma City plant to state offices just last month. The automaker also delivered specialized versions of the LDV to NASA last July, set to be used to support the Artemis missions, and tactical versions of the EV to the U.S. Army in late 2021.

In addition to Kingbee, Canoo has mass commercial deals for the LDV with Walmart and another fleet leasing provider, Zeeba.
