Researchers at Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden, have developed a method that can reduce the levels of mercury in sulfuric acid by more than 90%, even from low levels. An open-access paper on the method is published in ACS ES&T Engineering. Recycled streams in the smelters can also contain mercury.

Although no private company has actually used mercury propellant in a launched spacecraft, the possibility was alarming enough—and the dangers extreme enough—that the ban was enacted just a few years after one U.S.-based Mercury is a neurotoxin.

Researchers from QUILL —the Queen’s University (Belfast) Ionic Liquid Laboratories—will display a novel process for removing toxic mercury from natural gas using ionic liquids at the Royal Society’s Summer Science Exhibition. The exhibition opens to the public tomorrow, 1 July, at Royal Society headquarters in central London.

Mercury Marine , the largest US outboard manufacturer, recently introduced two new OptiMax outboard models for the northern hemisphere summer. Both engines have been certified for the California 3 Star emission standards. Engines meeting these standards have 65% lower emissions than One Star-Low Emission engines.

So, have the boat, just the shell, no engine at all, in the past these were powered by 2 x 140 HP Mercury 3,0 engines (170kW). Am wondering if possible how to convert to electric power, probably need much less power as aiming it at a chug along gin palace river boat rather than high power off shore ability cruiser.
