Startup electric car company Aurica Motors announced a plan to keep the NUMMI plant, which employs 4,700 people, from shutting down when Toyota leaves on 31 March. Aurica is trying to obtain Federal economic stimulus funding to convert NUMMI to electric car manufacturing, but is also open to private financing.

PwC has released the first edition of the “Charging Forward: Electric Vehicle Survey”, which it developed to provide a check-up on some of the major determining factors for the success of EVs in the near-, mid- and long-term. Solar comes in third at 19.4%, followed by Other (18.9%) and nuclear (11.4%). Source: PwC.

IRENA’s macroeconomic analysis suggests that such investment creates a stimulus that, together with other pro-growth policies, will: boost global GDP by 0.8% The buildings, industry and transport sectors need more bioenergy, solar heating and electricity from renewable sources that substitute conventional energy.

We noted in December that the Society of Automotive Engineers, or SAE, was working to update standards for the interface between plug-in electric cars and the grid, and planned to agree on a set within months. And for this ecosystem to be robust, there must be commonality, especially when owners are plugging into the electrical grid.
