Telangana sold only 6000 electric vehicles under FAME scheme

The Telangana State has sold only about 6,316 electric vehicles which are supported under the Faster Adoption of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (FAME) India scheme. Read further to know more about Telangana sold electric vehicles under the FAME scheme. 

The State has witnessed fewer sales numbers when compared to the other states like Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh as of December 9. Karnataka has topped all states by selling 33,483 electric vehicles after that comes Tamil Nadu which sold 24,638 electric vehicles, and Maharashtra sold 20,955 electric vehicles which are in total of 1.78 lakh EVs.

The minister said sales of electric automobiles have been affected in the last two years due to the spread of COVID-19 in the country. “Production and sales of automobiles have been impacted due to lockdown imposed to contain the spread of COVID-19,” he added.

FAME-installed EV charging stations in Telangana

The number of FAME-installed EV charging stations in Telangana state is the second-most in the country. Telangana has 56 EV charging stations, behind Delhi which has installed 94 EV charging stations. Under the FAME project, 452 EV charging stations were installed across India.

FAME-II Scheme modified 

Earlier this year in July, the FAME II scheme modified and extended, revised EV prices. FAME II scheme modified and extended till 2024.

Electric vehicles sold under the FAME-II Scheme as of May 2021 is 21% for electric three-wheelers, 2% for electric four-wheelers, 77% for electric two-wheelers. Under the FAME II scheme, 33 high speed (HS) E2W models from different OEMs have been approved as of May 2021. The approved models and incentives availed under the FAME II scheme are:

The high-speed electric vehicles witnessed a growth of 47%, with 41,048 units being sold in FY2021 as opposed to 27,787 units sold in FY2020. The share of HS E2Ws in the overall E2W sales went up from 20% in FY2020 to 28% in FY2021.

Whereas the Low speed (LS) E2Ws witnessed a decline of17.9% s FY2020. But however they are most affordable, there is no need for RTO registration, etc making them attractive to the buyers even today.
