The runaway popularity of SUV vehicles has come at the expense of other areas of the car market, notably the traditional estate car.

Peugeot 508 SW

Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Recently facelifted, the Mercedes C-Class estate offers tweaked styling and enhanced infotainment along with a range of new, more efficient diesel and petrol engines.

A lot of the emphasis of the vehicle is put on the interior, and as a result this is a classy and comfy car with plenty of space and refinement. That extends to how it drives too, with smooth-running comfort given precedent over any thrills and spills behind the wheel.

Volvo V90

The Volvo V90 has received a variety of upgrades, most noticeably a brand-new rear light design, full LED-powered signature lighting and a range of new exterior colours and wheel options.

The cabin combines comfort and tech perfectly, with Swedish minimalist design balanced by luxury touches. Wind noise is seemingly non-existant, while tyre noise is kept at a minimum despite some big wheels. Further back is a large boot that offers 560-1,526 litres of space, and while that narrowly trails behind its competitors there’s not much in it.
