Mercedes-Benz xEV sales (plug-in hybrids and battery electric vehicles) rose 37% ub Q1 2022 to 67,800 units of which 21,900 (+210%) units were battery-electric vehicles (BEV). Overall, Mercedes-Benz Cars January to March deliveries fell 15% year-on-year to 501,600 units in a challenging environment primarily due to semi-conductor constraints. Mercedes-Benz also saw deliveries of S-Class vehicles rise 67% during the quarter.

The Government of Canada has released Budget 2022. Among its measures is up to C$3.8 billion (US$3 billion) to implement Canada’s first Critical Minerals Strategy to capitalize on a growing need for the minerals used in everything from phones to electric cars. The Budget also allocates more than $3 billion (US$2.4 billion) in funding to make zero-emission vehicles more affordable and to build a national network of charging stations.

DeLorean Motor Company on Monday confirmed an August 18 reveal date for its all-electric successor to the DeLorean DMC-12 sports car. The reveal will take place at the Awards Ramp at the Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance, and the prototype vehicle will be displayed at the Pebble Beach Concept Lawn on August 21, DeLorean said in a press release.

Achates Power announced that the 10.6-liter, heavy-duty opposed-piston, three-cylinder diesel engine it developed in a project funded by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and several partners ( earlier post ) has entered fleet service with WALMART Corporation in a Peterbilt 579 tractor. It is the only diesel engine operating on the road capable of meeting CARB’s 2027 regulation, which requires a 90% reduction in emissions of NO x compared to current standards.

As it continues to launch new electric cars, Porsche is continuing to invest in synthetic fuels for internal-combustion vehicles. The automaker on Wednesday announced a $75 million investment in HIF Global LLC, a holding company for projects to develop synthetic fuel production facilities. The board of directors of the Flemish Transport Company De Lijn has started a new purchase procedure to order up to 1,250 emission-free buses of various types with lengths from approximately 8.5 to 24 meters. This procedure will run in parallel to the framework agreement for a maximum of 350 standard e-buses that was awarded last year.
