Porsche has taken the covers off the new 911 Cabriolet. The soft top follows the reveal of the all-new 911 coupe and is set to be offered with the same 444bhp twin-turbo 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine from launch.

In fact, the Cabriolet will mirror the model range of the coupe, meaning it’ll be available in Carrera S form as well as four-wheel-drive Carrera 4S. When fitted with the optional Sport Chrono Pack, the Carrera S manages 0-62mph in just 3.7 seconds and can reach a top speed of 190mph. Acceleration is a split second quicker for the 4S, but top speed drops to 189mph.

On the outside, you’ll notice it gets the same changes as the coupe – it’s available in wide-body form only now, while other additions include a third brake light that’s integrated into the rear air intake, door handles designed to reduce aero and exhaust exits that are now integrated into the rear bumper.

The noticeable difference is of course the convertible roof, which benefits from a refreshed design allowing it to be raised and lowered at speeds up to 31mph in 12 seconds. It also integrates a glass rear window, while an electric wind deflector can be deployed with the roof retracted.

Internally, you’ll find the same new tech and design tweaks as the coupe – notably a wider infotainment system and a digital driver display (except for Porsche’s trademark central rev counter that remains analogue).

Other clever new tech includes a Wet Mode that can detect standing water and potential hazards and prepares the car before reaching the hazard. The satnav is now able to use online data for more accurate live traffic data, and optional extras include a night vision system and active cruise control.

List prices for the Carrera S are set to start from £102,755, rising to £108,063 for the 4S. That’s a noticeable jump over its predecessor. Porsche hasn’t confirmed a launch date, but we can expect more potent GTS and Turbo models to arrive at a later date.
