Infineon is supplying key components for the Audi A8, the world’s first series production car featuring level 3 automated driving. Various chips from Infineon are to thank for safe automated driving in the Audi A8: sensors, microcontrollers and power semiconductors. Radar sensor chips from the RASIC family are installed in the front and corner radar. They send and receive high-frequency 77-GHz signals and forward these on to the central driver assistance controller (zFAS).

DUH says testing indicates use of defeat device in BMW 320d diesel

Results of testing on a Euro 6 BMW 320d diesel by the German environmental organization Deutsche Umwelthilfe (DUH), ZDF’s WISO and a software expert point to the use of inadmissible defeat devices, according to DUH. Tri Delta Transit switches fleet to 100% Neste MY Renewable Diesel

Tri Delta Transit in California has switched its entire fleet of transit buses from operating on petroleum diesel to using only Neste MY Renewable Diesel. Neste MY Renewable Diesel is a low-carbon fuel, produced from 100% renewable and sustainable raw materials. This drop-in fuel cuts greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% and significantly reduces tailpipe emissions, all while enhancing fleet performance.

IBM scientists demonstrate 10x faster large-scale machine learning using GPUs

It can process a 30 Gigabyte training dataset in less than one minute using a single graphics processing unit (GPU)—a 10x speedup over existing methods for limited memory training. NREL develops novel method to produce renewable acrylonitrile; carbon fibers from renewable biomass

Researchers from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and their colleagues have devised a novel catalytic method to produce renewable acrylonitrile (ACN) using 3-hydroxypropionic acid (3-HP), which can be biologically produced from sugars. The updated Mazda6 ( earlier post ) introduced at the Los Angeles Auto Show this past week offers two powertrain options in the US: an upgraded SKYACTIV-G 2.5 naturally aspirated engine and the turbocharged SKYACTIV-G 2.5T engine, first unveiled at the 2015 LA Auto Show for the 2016 CX-9. Fastned raises €12.3M in 10 days for expansion of European fast charging network

Renault launches new generation gasoline engine, co-developed by Alliance and Daimler

Renault has introduced a new direct injection turbocharged 1.3 gasoline engine co-developed by the Alliance and Daimler. Inaugurated on the Scénic and Grand Scénic, it will be progressively offered in the Renault range beginning in 2018. Two new studies of road air pollution in London find detrimental effects on over-60s and unborn babies
