Nissan Qashqai looks

The Qashqai’s silhouette is a ubiquitous shape across the UK, so Nissan hasn’t messed with it too much. There is, however, a revamped front end. The grille is larger than before, while the headlight units are now slimmer, while the DRLs split off to create a unique-looking C-shape.

Below, there’s some extra creases, while the grille gets some chrome trim to help it stand out. The door mirrors have been moved and completely redesigned, while a new range of alloy wheels are available too. The largest available size is 20in.

Round the back, the taillights not wrap around the car more than previously, while the Qashqai badge is centrally mounted under the Nissan moniker, following the same trend we’ve seen from other manufacturers in recent times.

Nissan has confirmed that the new Qashqai features aerodynamics designed to keep air flowing under the car to reduce drag. This will boost efficiency. Sources say the new Qashqai will feature an advanced headlight system that can adjust their brightness according to road conditions.

Nissan Qashqai interior and tech

The interior is arguably the main talking point for the new Qashqai. It’s been radically overhauled and now features a digital driver display (12.3in) that replaces traditional dials. The infotainment system is a 9in touchscreen setup that’s been enhanced – it gets Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard too.

The new system also features a TomTom satnav system, while the changes mean that it supports Google Assistant – just like your smartphone. Nissan’s ProPilot tech will be on offer too, giving the driver an excellent adaptive cruise control system.

Other safety options include autonomous emergency brakes and a 10in heads-up display. We’ll bring you exact trim specs as and when they are revealed.

The interior is slightly roomier than before too, particularly in the back. There’s more legroom for rear passengers, while the 504-litre boot is a significant improvement on the outgoing model’s 430 litres of space.

Nissan Qashqai driving and engines

The biggest news of all? It has to be the fact the Nissan has decided to say goodbye to diesel. From launch, you’ll be able to choose between two petrol-powered models and an all-new hybrid.

Both petrols use the same 1.3-litre motor that can be specified with 140hp or 160hp. They use mild-hybrid tech too, which uses a clever stop-start system to increase fuel consumption and lower emissions.

The hybrid model features a 1.5-litre motor coupled up with a 190hp electric motor. Unlike most other hybrids, the only thing powering the wheels is the electric motor; the combustion engine provides power for the battery.

All-wheel drive models will be available, with petrol models coming as standard with a six-speed manual gearbox. An automatic can also be specified on the most powerful petrol model and all-wheel drive variants.

Nissan has confirmed that the new Qashqai will get a revised suspension and steering design, which will allow for a more precise and confidence-inspiring drive. The all-wheel drive variants will get an advanced multi-link set-up too, maximising comfort and offering a more controlled response to bumps and shocks.

The power steering has been upgraded, offering improved response, better feeling around the central part of the steering range and reduced friction.
