Porsche unveiled the new Panamera 4 E-Hybrid plug-in hybrid ( earlier post )—the fourth model in the Panamera line—at the Paris Motor Show. The vehicle generates some 340 kW (462 hp) of system power and delivers fuel consumption figures of 2.5 l/100 km (94 mpg US) in the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) for plug-in hybrid models, with up to 50 km (31 miles) all-electric range. That corresponds to CO 2 emissions of 56 g/km. Energy consumption is 15.9 kWh/100 km.

Prius Prime PHEV pricing to start at $27,100; on sale later this year

Tesla Q3 deliveries up 70% from Q2 to 24,500 vehicles

Tesla delivered approximately 24,500 vehicles in Q3, of which 15,800 were Model S (64%) and 8,700 were Model X (36%). This was an increase of just over 70% from last quarter’s deliveries of 14,402. Tesla only counts a car as delivered if it is transferred to the customer and all paperwork is correct; about 5,500 vehicles were in transit to customers at the end of the quarter. These will not be counted as deliveries until Q4. Production rose to 25,185 vehicles in Q3.

Volkswagen Group opts for LNG-fueled car carriers

From 2019, Volkswagen Group Logistics will use two LNG-powered charter vessels from Siem Car Carriers AS, making it one of the first automakers to opt for low-emission LNG-powered vessels for the marine transport of vehicles. The two ships, with a length of 200 m and a capacity of about 4,500 vehicles, are to be used for vehicle shipment between Europe and North America. The use of LNG-powered roll on/roll off (RORO) car carriers on other routes is currently being considered.

EPA proposing updates to Renewable Fuel Standard

EPA is proposing updates to the Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS) regulations and related fuels regulations to better align the standards with the current state of the renewable fuels market and to promote the use of ethanol and non-ethanol biofuels. Government of Canada announces national plan for carbon pricing

The Government of Canada has proposed a pan-Canadian approach to pricing carbon emissions; under the new plan, all Canadian jurisdictions will have carbon pricing in place by 2018. To accomplish this, Canada will set a benchmark for pricing carbon emissions—set at a level that will help Canada meet its greenhouse gas emission targets. Provinces and territories will have flexibility in deciding how they implement carbon pricing.
