Sandia-led team designs feasible hydrogen fuel-cell coastal research vessel; implications for large hydrogen-fueled vessels

Sandia National Laboratories partnered with the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, the naval architect firm Glosten and the class society DNV GL to assess the technical, regulatory and economic feasibility of a hydrogen fuel-cell coastal research vessel. A report released this month shows it is technically and economically feasible to build such a vessel in a manner consistent with marine regulations. The project team nicknamed the vessel the “Zero-V,” short for zero-emissions research vessel.

Honda to launch motorcycle hybrid system-equipped PCX HYBRID scooter

Toshiba researchers use TiNb2O7 anodes for high-energy, fast-charging, long-life Li-ion batteries for EVs

A team at Toshiba’s Corporate Research & Development Center in Kawasaki, Japan, has developed a high-density TiNb 2 O 7 (HD-TNO) composite electrode consisting of micro-size spherical TNO secondary particles coated with carbon. UNL-led team greatly increases hydrogen production by T maritima; breaking the theoretical limit

The team’s highest reported yield—5.7 units of hydrogen for every unit of glucose fed to the bacterium—easily surpassed the theoretical limit of 4 units proposed in 1977 by researcher Rudolf Thauer.
