The REAL Climate Change Debate: Are All Deniers Evil or Are Some Merely Ignorant?

Creative Greenius

Either Way They Are More Dangerous To Your Future Than Any Terrorist. You wouldn’t know it from the mainstream media, your elected representatives or the folks at the US Chamber of Commerce, but we’re currently in the most threatening crisis our civilization has ever faced. Sure, if you’re a regular Creative Greenius reader you’re already hip to the news, but that only puts you in very enlightened and highly entertained minority.

Electric Pedicabs - future for London's transport

DIY Electric Car

London belongs to one of the largest cities in the world. It's transport also belongs to the one of the most developed. London's undergrounds is one of the most developed in the world but also one of the oldest in the world counting over a 100 years. There is also an excellent network of overground trains and if we think of it all of these are powered by massive electric drives.

EV Awareness Day, Synkro faults

Open Source Civic EV Kit

Yesterday was our local EV organization's big annual event called EV Awareness Day. We held it at Pioneer Courthouse Square in downtown Portland. I gave a press event with the Mayor Sam Adams and two VPs from local power companies (PGE and Pacific Power). Probably one of the coolest things about the show is that a Tesla Roadster showed up unexpectedly! Here I am with the Tesla Roadster. After talking about electric vehicles to people all day in the sun, I was rather fried at the end of the day.

Toyota's First Electric Car?

Plugs and Cars

Autocar.co.uk is reporting: "Toyota's iQ-based electric car, due to be launched in 2010, will get its own body style to create a stand-alone model which will become Toyota’s first all-electric car" (emphasis added.) I'm pretty sure I just stepped out of my 2002 Toyota RAV4 EV. With 69,000 miles on the original battery, it still gets over 100 miles per charge. Toyota still wishing away it's own achievement. What's that about?

Nissan’s Big Gamble

Revenge of the Electric Car

We’ll finally get to see the new Nissan August 2nd. That’s Tokyo time, it’ll still be the 1st here.) I assume they’ll have the name finalized by then, too. I’m kind of excited to see this car, having tested the drivetrain in the Nissan Cube. The drivability was similar to my RAV, but quicker. Since the Cube is 200 lbs heavier than the final body of the EV, it should be a bit quicker still. The best thing about the Nissan is the expected price range of $25K- $34K.

Getting a new Synkromotive Controller

Open Source Civic EV Kit

After mentioning the motor controller temperature faults to Ives (the designer) at Synkromotive, he suggested we swap it out for a newer one. I went into the shop this evening and swapped out the controller. Ives looked at the old one and basically told me that I had beta test unit #2 with tiny heatsinks, bad ventilation and very little filtering on the temperature fault circuitry. Apparently other customers have had the same issues and the new controller should be far better.

Exxon/Mobil Guilty of Climate Change Coverup. Now Ordered Out of Torrance 3 Years Sooner.

I initially gave Exxon/Mobil till 2020 to get out of Torrance and clean up their toxic mess here in my town. But now that I’ve found out they’re still lying and covering up their role in climate change and the size of their own carbon footprint, I’m going to have to get tougher with them. Some people just cannot be negotiated with and need a swift, hard kick in the ass. Sometimes they need several of them. The global gangbangers from Exxon/Mobil are like that.

Toyota whines about Ontario plug-in rebates

Plugs and Cars

Toyota has a go-slow policy on plug-in electrics. Despite having produced the RAV4 EV - the most useful, robust, and long-lived electric car - Toyota wants to milk its non-grid connected hybrid technology as long as possible before moving on to the next big thing. Ontario has announced a $10,000 rebate for plug-in electrics, and Toyota wouldn't benefit as they delay general release of their own plug-ins. Crying foul, they claim the rebate is back-door support for GM's Volt.

Super FET working Comments on Sykro Controller

Open Source Civic EV Kit

Last week I was mostly on vacation, so I didn't get a chance to really charge the car at full amperage many times. This week was back to work, so I was able to give the charge detector a more reasonable test. In short, the three huge FETs with heat-sinks seem to work just fine (I should hope so.). I've charged the car seven times in the summer heat and the charger can dump a full 8 amps into the batteries every time without heating up the charge detector box.

Honda S2000 EV Conversion

Preface: A few weeks I was driving to work and looked down at the TS BMS system for kWh. The reading was FAR lower than normal for being halfway to work. My first though was, "crap it didn't charge and I'm halfway between home and work". I decided to keep going and keep light on the throttle. I made it to work with power to spare. It turned out the pack was completely charged when I left home, but the BMS failed to recognize most of the energy that was charged into the pack.
