My First EV Video

My friend Pete dropped by for lunch today with his video camera and we captured a four-minute video of the electric car in action as well as a description of the various parts. This is rather unrefined, so enjoy...

Very neat! Nice explanation. You can even hear the 10KHz whine on the video :-( - I wonder if an active noice-cancelling system would work?

You need to grease your door stay :-)

By the way, I posted a pointer to this on 914world.com - hopefully lots of people will drop in to offer their congrats.

Outstanding, Tim! I'm in the early stages of exactly the same conversion myself. I have an excellent platform and am setting it up as my daily driver. Once I have the mechanicals cleaned and lubed, the seals fitted properly and the electricals sorted out, I'm going to start the conversion. Hoping to have most of the project completed this year (it'll never truly be completed, right?).

Beautiful, Tim! That is inspiring. I'd love to see an "on the road" video sometime as well, when you venture onto the highway.
Congratulations!

I agree with Steve!

Now I've got to read the blog to find out why you went with AC instead of DC ;)

Thanks for all the comments. There's definitely a loud 10Khz whine whenever I accelerate or regenerate. :| The acceleration is rather weak at this point, but there are still parameters in the controller to tweak. I've only been on the freeway once and had the car at 60mph. I'll post more as I improve the system. Tomorrow is Sunday and nobody is on the road in the morning, so I can try more experiments then. Cheers, Tim.
