Results of testing on a Euro 6 BMW 320d diesel by the German environmental organization Deutsche Umwelthilfe (DUH), ZDF’s WISO and a software expert point to the use of inadmissible defeat devices, according to DUH. The organizations found that road-testing NO x emissions are up to 7.2 times higher than those produced on the dyno, which met the official NO x limit.

Since the Dieselgate scandal broke more than two years ago, Volkswagen has spent a great deal of time talking about its plans for electric cars. It has rolled out three concept vehicles within the new Volkswagen ID family, and discussed its dedicated electric-car architecture that will underpin all of them. Ballard Power Systems announced that a subsidiary of strategic partner Zhongshan Broad-Ocean Motor Co., Ltd. (Broad-Ocean) called Shanghai Edrive Co. Ltd. has commissioned its fuel cell engine manufacturing facility located in Shanghai, China. Shanghai Edrive will assemble Ballard FCveloCity 30-kilowatt (kW) and 85kW fuel cell engines at the facility under a technology transfer, licensing and supply arrangement between Ballard and Broad-Ocean that closed earlier this year.

On Tuesday, Tesla scored a decisive victory when the Missouri Court of Appeals reversed a lower court's ruling that would have left Tesla without a state dealer license.

Renault has introduced a new direct injection turbocharged 1.3 gasoline engine co-developed by the Alliance and Daimler. Inaugurated on the Scénic and Grand Scénic, it will be progressively offered in the Renault range beginning in 2018. This new engine offers significant improvement in driving performance, with better torque at low rpm and greater and constant availability at high rpm, while reducing fuel consumption and CO 2 emissions.

A Volkswagen manager who pleaded guilty to deceiving regulators in the United States over the emissions of the company's TDI diesel engines has been sentenced to the maximum penalty of seven years in prison and the maximum fine of $400,000. "This crime. attacks and destroys the very foundation of our economic system," said federal court judge.

Jaguar’s upcoming first entry into electric vehicles is undergoing final validation in Los Angeles, a year after the British brand revealed the I-Pace Concept at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show. Jaguar wrapped the new I-Pace in a pseudo-mule livery and plastered a hashtag on its side as engineers performed final range and durability testing.

Ford Motor Company and Alibaba Group will explore a strategic collaboration to identify new opportunities to redefine consumer retail experiences and to explore solutions for sustainable mobility. Under the three-year agreement, Ford will cooperate with Alibaba’s four business units: AliOS operation systems; Alibaba Cloud cloud computing; Alimama digital marketing; and Tmall online retail.

The technology group Wärtsilä has adapted its hybrid tug design ( earlier post ) specifically to meet the needs of the Chinese market. This version of the Wärtsilä HYTug has received an Approval-in-Principle recognition by the China Classification Society (CCS). The Wärtsilä HYTug design is based upon Wärtsilä’s fully integrated hybrid power module.

A record 582 Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrids were sold in Canada last month, two months after Chevy delivered a then-record 483 Volts in September. The achievement is even more impressive considering Canadian car sales dropped by 15 percent between the two months, as the industry enters its slow season. The November Volt sales are more than the 536.

NEVS has begun production of the 9-3 electric vehicle at its plant in Tianjin. The installed annual product capacity is 50,000 electric vehicles in Phase I of the Project, and with expansion to 220,000 planned for Phase II. NEVS is working with 3 generations of EVs in its innovation and development centers in both China and Sweden. The second and third generation will be developed in close co-operation with DiDi Chuxing.
