Chemical reactor company INERATEC , a spinoff of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), and the Spanish company GAS NATURAL FENOSA have built a plant in Spain that produces synthetic natural gas from CO 2 and renewable hydrogen. The process is based on the production of hydrogen by electrolysis (renewable power-to-gas) and its reaction with CO 2 from biogenic sources—e.g. sewage sludge.

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) and the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have approved emissions modifications for the last remaining Volkswagen (VW) vehicles containing undisclosed software which deliberately shut down emission control equipment (defeat devices). The legal process began in 2015 and eventually involved more than a half million diesel VW, Audi and Porsche vehicles in the US.
