U Delaware team develops prototype efficient direct ammonia fuel cell for transportation

A team at the University of Delaware has demonstrated a direct ammonia fuel cell (DAFC) prototype with a peak power density of 135 mW cm -2 at 80 ?C. The DAFC employs an ammonia-tolerant precious-metal-free cathode catalyst (Acta 4020) and a high-temperature-stable hydroxide exchange membrane (HEM). A paper on the work is published in the journal Joule.

Former Audi CEO arrested in Germany over diesel-scandal allegations

BNEF ups forecast for global investment in stationary energy storage, sees majority of capacity likely to be grid-scale

Energy storage installations around the world will multiply exponentially, from a modest 9GW/17GWh deployed as of 2018 to 1,095GW/2,850GWh by 2040, according to the latest forecast from research company BloombergNEF (BNEF). The total demand for batteries from the stationary storage and electric transport sectors is forecast to be 4,584GWh combined by 2040, providing a major opportunity for battery makers and miners of component metals such as lithium, cobalt and nickel.

James Cook University researchers using 3D printing for rocket fuels

James Cook University (JCU) scientists in Australia are using 3D printing to create fuels for rockets, and using tailor-made rocket motors they’ve built to test the fuels. JCU lecturer in mechanical engineering Dr Elsa Antunes led the study, published in an open-access paper in the journal Aerospace. The JCU scientists 3D printed fuel grains (solid, plastic-based fuel) for the hybrid rockets using plastics and other materials.
