2022 Rivian R1T and R1S: Both electric trucks top 300 miles of EPA range

The U.S. EPA on Friday posted official efficiency and range ratings for the Rivian R1T electric pickup and R1S electric SUV, and they both handily top 300 miles. Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. and Waseda University have started testing in Japan of a jointly developed recycling process that efficiently recovers high-purity rare-earth compounds from electrified vehicle motor magnets. The testing is aimed at enabling practical application of the new process by the mid-2020s. Most motors in electrified vehicles use neodymium magnets, which contain scarce rare-earth metals such as neodymium and dysprosium.
