New larger 2019 Volkswagen Jetta boosts fuel economy over curren generation

The all-new 2019 Volkswagen Jetta, unveiled in January at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit ( earlier post ) will offer improved EPA-estimated fuel economy for the model: 30 mpg city (7.8 L/100km) and 40 mpg (5.88 L/100km) highway, for a combined 34 mpg (6.91 L/100km), two mpg higher on the combined measure than the automatic transmission version of the current generation Jetta.

UQM Technologies receives initial order from Ashok Leyland for 51 electric drivetrains for transit bus applications; entry into India market

UQM Technologies, Inc. announced its first purchase order from Ashok Leyland, a major India commercial vehicle manufacturer. The purchase order is for 51 UQM PowerPhase eDT systems to be shipped during 2018 for a demonstration program for electric transit buses in India. The purchase order signifies the first step in the development program to gain market leadership and drive the overall 2030 India electrification initiative.

Rome joins European ban-diesel bandwagon after German court ruling

First Paris, then a pair of German cities, and now the Eternal City. Two weeks ago, the mayor of Rome announced on her Facebook page that the city would ban diesel cars altogether by 2024. It's not clear whether the ban applies solely to the older, most-polluting diesels as it does already in Paris, or to any vehicle with a diesel engine. CHECK.

Volvo’s Polestar 1 PHEV makes European debut; pre-orders open 13 March

Polestar, Volvo Cars’ new electric performance brand, introduced the Polestar 1 plug-in hybrid to the public for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show. The European debut follows its global media reveal in Shanghai, China, in late 2017. ( Earlier post.). Polestar 1 is an electric performance hybrid 2+2 GT coupé which produces 600 horsepower and 1,000 N·m of torque, as well as 150 km (93 miles) of all-electric range—the longest AER of any hybrid car in the world.

In June last year, Daimler and BAIC signed a framework agreement on further strengthening collaboration through investment for New Energy Vehicles in China, which included Daimler’s intention to become shareholder in BJEV.
