Tri Delta Transit in California has switched its entire fleet of transit buses from operating on petroleum diesel to using only Neste MY Renewable Diesel. Neste MY Renewable Diesel is a low-carbon fuel, produced from 100% renewable and sustainable raw materials. This drop-in fuel cuts greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% and significantly reduces tailpipe emissions, all while enhancing fleet performance.

MOIA, the mobility startup from the Volkswagen Group ( earlier post ), is introducing its electric ride pooling concept van just one year after its inception. MOIA is presenting the electric van and its ride pooling ecosystem with the mission “One Million Cars off the Road” at TechCrunch in Berlin (4-5 December). As MOIA’s first project, the entire ecosystem—including the newly designed electric van—will launch in Hamburg at the end of 2018.

The Volkswagen brand Board of Management has agreed on milestones with key suppliers at the “MEB Supplier Summit” in the run-up to start of production for the first vehicle based on the new modular electric drive kit (MEB). Production of the compact all-electric Volkswagen I.D. will begin in 100 weeks at the Zwickau plant in Saxony. EarthSense Systems—a joint venture between the University of Leicester and aerial mapping company BlueSky—has published MappAir, the first high resolution nationwide map of air pollution. Combining data from satellites and its own air quality monitoring sensors together with open source data, EarthSense used complex modeling techniques to create the highly accurate map.

Chevy didn't quite pull it off in November, but it could well happen this month in a burst of end-of-year sales. In this case, "it" would be selling 3,000 Chevrolet Bolt EV electric cars in a single month: the delivery total reported last month was 2,987. Long Beach Transit (LBT) recently received a $600,000 grant from the Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Review Committee (MSRC) of the South Coast Air Quality Management District Near Zero Incentive Program for the purchase of 40 Cummins “near-zero” compressed natural gas (CNG) engines. ( Earlier post.) The engines are upgrades to a recent bus procurement as the “near zero” engines were not available when the purchase was authorized in 2016.

Audi is exhibiting an innovative pre-development project to support autonomous driving at the NIPS 2017 conference in Long Beach, California, this week. A project team from the Audi subsidiary Audi Electronics Venture (AEV) developed a mono camera that uses artificial intelligence to generate an extremely precise 3D model of the environment. This technology makes it possible to capture the exact surroundings of the car.
