PSI team develops web tool for consumers to compare environmental impact of passenger cars in detail

Researchers at the Paul Scherrer Institute have developed a web tool called the Carculator that can be used to compare the environmental performance of passenger cars in detail. The program determines the environmental balance of vehicles with different size classes and powertrains, and presents the results in comparative graphics. The entire life cycle of the passenger cars is taken into account, including the manufacture of the vehicles and the environmentally relevant emissions from driving.

Not even EVs: Much of central London could soon be going car-free

Electric cars have been exempt from most attempts to regulate vehicular traffic in urban centers, but not a new London plan to create car-free zones. Cars—even those without tailpipes—will be banned from large areas of the British capital in order to create more space for pedestrians and cyclists, news network ITV reported Friday.

VisIC and ZF partner on R&D effort to develop EV inverter based on GaN semiconductor technology; focus on 400V

ZF Friedrichshafen AG and Israel-based VisIC Technologies Ltd., a developer of gallium nitride (GaN) devices for automotive high-voltage applications, are partnering to develop an EV inverter based on GaN semiconductor technology. The partnership will see the two companies deepen their development efforts, based on VisIC D 3 GaN (Direct Drive Depletion-mode GaN) semiconductor technology.
