A new study by a team at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) suggests that low penetration rates of connected and automated vehicles (CAVs) can deliver significant fuel consumption benefits, but that the total travel time increases slightly. The study, presented presented at the 9 th ACM SIGSPATIAL on Computational Transportation Science , also found that benefits in travel time increase with higher penetration rates of CAVs.
