Ballard to supply Norled with 200 kW fuel cell modules to power ferry in Norway

Ballard Power Systems Europe A/S—a subsidiary of Ballard Power Systems, Inc.—has signed an Equipment Supply Agreement (ESA) with Norled A/S , one of Norway’s largest ferry and express boat operators, to provide two next-generation 200 kW fuel cell modules that will be used to power a hybrid ferry planned to begin operating in 2021. The Ballard modules will be designed and manufactured at the company’s new Marine Center of Excellence at its facility in Hobro, Denmark. ( Earlier post.)

Last month, the 258-mile 2019 Hyundai Kona Electric crossover quietly became $500 dearer to interested EV shoppers without any equipment changes. The automaker hiked the starting price for a 2019 Kona Electric SEL to $37,995, up from $37,495.

RATP splits ~800 electric bus order between HeuliezBus, Bluebus/Bolloré and Alstom/Alstom Aptis

Paris transport operator RATP is splitting an order for nearly 800 electric buses into three identical batches, in their minimum and maximum amounts, with HeuliezBus, Bluebus/Bolloré and Alstom/Alstom Aptis. The up to €400-million order is the result of a consultation launched in January 2018, the aim of which was to accelerate the renewal of the RATP bus fleet.

HEI report finds current levels of air pollution have reduced life expectancy by 1.67 years on average worldwide

The Health Effects Institute (HEI) has released the annual State of Global Air (SoGA) 2019 report and website. This year’s report includes the latest results on air pollution exposure and its health burden around the world based on the 2017 GBD (Global Burden of Disease) study. Among the findings of the report is that current levels of air pollution levels have reduced life expectancy by 1 year and 8 months (1.67 years) on average worldwide.

Veloz: CA EV sales continue to grow

According to tracking by Veloz, electric car sales in California in Q1 2019 continued their upward trend, with year-over-year increases each month and a 13% increase over Q1 2018. According to Veloz’ monthly “Sales Dashboard”, each month of Q1 saw greater electric car sales than the same month of the previous year. Total electric car sales in California increased 84% from 2017 (96,847) to 2018 (177,781).
