Nissan Leaf 30-kwh battery decline 3 times that of earlier electric cars: study

Green Car Reports

The Nissan Leaf, at least for the moment, remains the highest-volume electric car produced in history, with more than 300,000 sold. One of the measures that kept its cost down was the use of passive air cooling for its battery pack, rather than the pricier liquid cooling used by other makers to keep battery temperatures within limits. Nissan has.

RPI researchers use self-heating technique to anneal and eliminate lithium dendrites; self-healing anode

Green Car Congress

Researchers at Rensselaer have developed a new technique using heat to enable self-healing lithium-metal anodes to eliminate dangerous dendrite buildup, paving the way for higher energy density battery technologies. Despite their extremely high energy density, lithium (Li) metal electrodes are not currently deployable in commercial rechargeable batteries because electrochemical plating and stripping invariably leads to growth of dendrites that reduce coulombic efficiency and eventually short the

Kona Electric, Bolt EV, Niro, C-HR aren't crossovers, despite what makers say

Green Car Reports

It happened again. At this week's New York auto show media days, a manufacturer rolled out yet another vehicle that it calls a "crossover" despite that vehicle having neither the ground clearance nor the all-wheel drive to qualify as a light truck. The car in question was the 2019 Hyundai Kona Electric, a 250-mile battery-electric vehicle more.

Berkeley study finds self-driving electric taxi fleets in Manhattan would deliver significant cost and environmental benefits

Green Car Congress

Researchers at the Department of Energy’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) and UC Berkeley have analyzed the cost, energy, and environmental implications of a fleet of self-driving electric vehicles operating in Manhattan. Using models they built and data from more than 10 million taxi trips in New York City, they found that the cost of service provided by a fleet of shared automated electric vehicles (SAEVs) would be $0.29-$0.61 per revenue mile—an order of magnitude l

Tesla recalls 123,000 Model S electric cars over steering-bolt corrosion

Green Car Reports

Tesla will recall roughly 123,000 of the Model S electric cars it built from 2012 through April 2016 to replace bolts in the power-steering units of the electric cars. The company said the bolts could corrode in cars used on roads where calcium or magnesium salts are used to melt ice. The Model S steering would not fail even if the bolt sheared.

EPA staffers told how to downplay climate change in leaked memo

EPA administrator Scott Pruitt would be controversial even if he hadn't flown to Morocco in December (first-class, on the taxpayer dime) to lobby the country on the benefits of liquified natural gas while living in a condo owned by a lobbyist for the country's largest LNG exporter. He is likely the first EPA head to axe scientists from the.

UK government announces £48M for Ultra-Low Emission Bus Scheme; at least 30% less GHG than Euro VI bus

Green Car Congress

UK Transport Minister Nusrat Ghani announced a new Ultra-Low Emission Bus (ULEB) Scheme. The program will see local authorities and operators in England and Wales bid for a share of a £48 million (US$667.5 million) fund, which they can use to buy hundreds of new ultra-low emission buses as well as the infrastructure to support them. To qualify as an ultra-low emission bus, buses must produce at least 30% less GHG emissions than a conventional Euro VI bus and meet Euro VI engine regulations.
