Daimler, Shell and Linde inaugurated the city of Bremen’s first hydrogen filling station, providing a refueling option on the important route between Hamburg and North Rhine-Westphalia. The new site at Osterholzer Heerstraße 222 is located directly on the Sebaldsbrück motorway exit and the Bremen interchange, and is also near the Mercedes-Benz plant in Bremen, one of Daimler AG’s largest car plants in the world.

Cummins Inc. is acquiring the assets of Brammo, Inc., which designs and develops battery packs for mobile and stationary applications. Adding Brammo’s battery pack expertise and resources is an important step for Cummins in its efforts to become a global electrified power leader. The technology group Wärtsilä has completed the installation of a hybrid energy system on board Viking Princess. ( Earlier post.) The Norwegian vessel is now the first offshore supply vessel in which batteries reduce the number of generators aboard the ship. A team led by researchers at the US Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratory has developed a new way to produce solar fuels by using completely synthetic bionano machinery to harvest light without the need for a living cell. The researchers’ device, reported in the journal ACS Nano as a “synthetic purple membrane,” contains tiny discs of lipids, man-made proteins and semiconducting nanoparticles that, when taken together, can transform sunlight into hydrogen fuel.
