A new report from IDTechEX forecasts the solid-state battery market will grow to $8 billion by 2031. Under most of the mass-production plans, the solid-state battery will likely take off after 2025, although small-scale production may happen even earlier, IDTechEX said. The car plug-in market will take the largest share (66%) in 2031, followed by smartphone applications.

Following the announcement by solid-state battery company Solid Power that it will become a publicly listed company through a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC), materials technology company Umicore announced that it holds a stake in Solid Power’s pre-SPAC transaction. This stake was built through two successive investment rounds (series A and B) which Solid Power raised before launching the next phase of its growth through a public listing.

Oshkosh Defense on Tuesday announced that it plans to build its next-generation postal vehicles—some of which will be battery-electric—for the U.S. government in Spartanburg, South Carolina starting in summer 2023. The company was awarded a $6 billion contract in February that will result in the delivery of between 50,000 and 165,000.

Ford on Wednesday revealed official EPA range estimates for the Mustang Mach-E GT and GT Performance electric SUV—and both versions exceed the projected mileage that Ford had previously suggested. The Mach-E GT Performance will be rated 270 miles, while the Mach-E GT will be rated 260 miles, according to Ford. Both models have completed both.

Oshkosh Defense has selected Spartanburg, South Carolina to be the home of its efforts to build the Next Generation Delivery Vehicle (NGDV) for the US Postal Service. ( Earlier post.) The NGDV is the USPS’ first large-scale fleet procurement in three decades. Oshkosh Defense, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Oshkosh Corporation, will open a dedicated facility in Spartanburg, South Carolina where it will build the United States Postal Service (USPS) Next Generation Delivery Vehicle (NGDV).
