ExxonMobil greenlights Liza development in offshore Guyana; $4.4B Phase 1 investment

Exxon Mobil Corporation will proceed with the first phase of development for the Liza field, one of the largest oil discoveries of the past decade, located offshore Guyana. The company also announced positive results from the Liza-4 well, which encountered more than 197 feet (60 meters) of high-quality, oil-bearing sandstone reservoirs, which will underpin a potential Liza Phase 2 development.

Tesla releases latest version of Autopilot; Model X first SUV to achieve 5-Star crash rating across the board

Tesla has released the latest version of its Autopilot software, with enhanced features including Traffic-Aware Cruise Control, Autosteer, Auto Lane Change, Parallel + Perpendicular Autopark, and Summon. Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward + Side Collision Warning, and more advanced safety features are also active and standard. All Tesla vehicles—including the Model 3—have the hardware needed for full self-driving capability.

Ontario studying use of fuel cells to electrify its GO rail network

Ontario is taking a major step forward to electrify the GO rail network. The Canadian province has begun the GO Rail Network Electrification Transit Project Assessment Process. The process builds on public consultations held last year and will assess the environmental impacts of converting core segments of the GO rail network, including the UP Express, from diesel to electric.

Volkswagen unveiled the new sixth-generation Polo at an event in Berlin. With more than 14 million units sold to date, the Polo is one of the world’s most successful compact cars. The sixth generation has a fully new sportier exterior design, and is bigger than its predecessor in every dimension. In many parts of Europe the new Polo is due to launch before the year is out, with a number of Euro 6 engines being used phase by phase.
