Mercedes-Benz begins sales of DRIVE PILOT Level 3 conditionally automated driving in Germany

Mercedes-Benz’ DRIVE PILOT system for conditionally automated driving (SAE Level 3) can be ordered in Germany from 17 May as an optional extra for the S-Class for €5,000 and for the EQS for €7,430 (Driver Assistance Package Plus: €2,430 and DRIVE PILOT: €5,000) excl.

California Seabed Mining Prevention Act passes on the Assembly Floor

California Assembly Bill (AB) 1832, the California Seabed Mining Prevention Act , received unanimous support on the Assembly floor on 5 May. This legislation, introduced by Assemblymember Luz Rivas and co-authored by Senators Ben Allen and Monique Limón, and Assemblymembers Sharon Stone and Bill Quirk, would protect more than 2,500 square miles of seafloor and marine life from hard mineral extraction.

Altris to manufacture sodium-ion cathode material in Sweden

Sodium-ion battery cathode producer Altris AB ( earlier post ) signed a deal with AB Sandvik Materials Technology to house the company’s first industrial-scale manufacturing facility in Sandviken. The new facility, called ‘Ferrum’, will have the annual capacity to produce 2000 metric tonnes of Altris’ cathode material Fennac, enabling 1GWh of sustainable sodium-ion batteries to enter the market each year.
