DOE announces $64M for research into future coal power plants

The US Department of Energy (DOE) announced up to $64 million in federal funding for cost-shared research and development (R&D) projects under the funding opportunity announcement ( DE-FOA-0002057 ), “Critical Components for Coal FIRST Power Plants of the Future.”. DOE’s Coal FIRST (Flexible, Innovative, Resilient, Small, Transformative) initiative is intended to develop the coal plant of the future needed to provide secure and reliable power to the US grid.

JRC: 76.5% of world’s population in urban areas as of 2015

More than three-quarters (76%) of the world’s population now live in urban areas, according to the European Commission’s Joint Research Center’s (JRC’s) new Atlas of the Human Planet 2019. The Atlas will be officially launched on Monday at the 10 th session of the World Urban Forum in Abu Dhabi. The JRC is the European Commission’s science and knowledge service.

SEAT implements self-driven robots to automate outdoor parts transport; ASTI Tribot with SLAM navigation

SEAT is the first industrial manufacturer in Europe to have outdoor, automated guided vehicles (AGVs) with SLAM navigation (simultaneous localization and mapping), 4G connection and inductive charging for the batteries. To date, eight AGVs are operating outside the production workshops at the Martorell plant to automate the transport of parts. SEAT’s AGVs are based on ASTI’s Tribot 10T.
