Wright Electric to develop electric 100-passenger aircraft for one-hour regional flights

Wright Electric, Inc. ( earlier post ) is adding a new member to its planned family of zero-emissions aircraft for the commercial market—the Wright Spirit will incorporate Wright’s megawatt-class electric propulsion system and serve the 100-passenger market for one-hour flights. The Wright Spirit aircraft design builds on the BAe 146 platform—a 100 passenger, 4-engine aircraft known for its operation out of noise-sensitive airports.

CN purchases Wabtec’s battery-electric locomotive

CN has purchased Wabtec’s FLXdrive battery-electric freight locomotive ( earlier post ). CN’s Bessemer & Lake Erie Railroad (B&LE) Company received a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to help with the purchase of the battery-electric locomotive. The Wabtec FLXdrive technology, with its 2.4MWh battery pack, can reduce train fuel consumption and emissions by up to 30%.

MAN Energy Solutions a{announced} that its gas-powered, four-stroke engines are “H2-ready” and operable in stationary mode with a hydrogen content of up to 25% by volume in a gas-fuel mix. As such, within the power-plant segment, the company’s MAN 35/44G TS, 51/60G and 51/60G TS gas engines are now designated as H2-ready and capable of exploiting hydrogen to further reduce CO 2 emissions.

Michigan utility Consumers Energy is committing to powering 1 million electric vehicles by 2030. The goal would support the auto industry’s goal to have electric vehicles be 50% of new sales by 2030.
