EV Connect pilots first V2G charging project in the Midwest

EV Connect, a California-based software-as-a-service company, is collaborating with the Indiana-based Battery Innovation Center (BIC) and Energy Systems Network (ESN) to deploy Indiana’s first large-scale Vehicle-to-Grid capable charging system to support school bus fleet, HD truck, and other customer segment applications. EV Connect provides its electric vehicle charging management solution and 500 kW bi-directional bus-scale superchargers from Rhombus.

Hydro-Québec to commercialize University of South Wales manganese hydride molecular sieve for H2 storage

Hydro-Québec’s Center of Excellence in Transportation Electrification and Energy Storage (CETEES) and the University of South Wales (USW) have signed commercial agreements to transfer patented hydrogen storage technology arising from USW research to Hydro-Québec to enable its commercialization. This technology— a manganese hydride molecular sieve ( earlier post )—allows for the hydrogen to be absorbed into a material at higher concentrations and densities.

Spokane Transit adds 12 New Flyer Xcelsior CHARGE EVs

New Flyer of America Inc. announced that the Spokane Transit Authority (STA) unveiled its first 60-foot, five-door electric Xcelsior CHARGE City Line bus, as part of a contract that New Flyer won in June 2020. The contract, not previously announced by New Flyer, was for ten 60-foot and two 40-foot Xcelsior CHARGE battery-electric heavy-duty transit buses (22 equivalent units or EUs).

Partial suspension of two Nornickel mines to reduce 2021 production of nickel by 35 kt, copper by 65 kt and PGM by 22t

Russia-based Nornickel, the world’s largest producer of palladium and high-grade nickel and a major producer of platinum and copper, estimates an approximate drop of 35kt of nickel production, 65 kt of copper production and 22 t of platinum group metal (PGM) production in 2021 after operations at two of its mines were partially suspended following groundwater inflow.
