A new study from Juniper Research forecasts that the number of hydrogen vehicles in service globally will exceed 1 million in 2027, from just over 60,000 in 2022—substantial growth of more than 1,500%—with the bulk of the deployed vehicles in China and the Far East. Juniper Research defines hydrogen vehicles as vehicles that use hydrogen propulsion systems as their onboard fuel.

Volvo Trucks has started to test its hydrogen fuel cell powered trucks. Volvo Trucks already offers battery electric trucks and trucks that run on renewable fuels, such as biogas. In the second half of this decade, a third CO 2 -neutral option will be added to its product portfolio: fuel cell electric trucks powered by hydrogen. We have been developing this technology for some years now, and it feels great to see the first trucks successfully running on the test track.

Hyundai and Michelin on Monday announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding to partner on environmentally friendly EV tires. Joint research between the two companies aims to increase use of sustainable materials while optimizing tires for EVs, Hyundai said in a press release. BASF will build a commercial-scale battery recycling black mass plant in Schwarzheide, Germany. The plant will have an annual processing capacity of 15,000 tons of EV batteries and production scrap. This investment strengthens BASF’s cathode active materials (CAM) production and recycling hub in Schwarzheide. The site is an ideal location for the build-up of battery recycling activities given the presence of many EV car manufacturers and cell producers in Central Europe.
