More than 300 customers have plced orders for a total of 10,000 E-Transit vans, according to Ford Pro, the global commercial and government business and brand within Ford. Customers range from one-person van operations to municipalities including the City of Orlando to some of the nation’s largest service providers and retailers such as Walmart, which alone ordered more than 1,100 vans.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk confirmed Wednesday that the electric-car maker is not currently working on its $25,000 EV and suggested that the availability of such a car doesn’t matter as much as when the car becomes autonomous. Musk claimed that the actual cost of transit drops by a factor of four or five when autonomous vehicles are enabled.

The exploration of airborne transportation and advanced air mobility (AAM) is the focus of a new partnership between the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and Supernal—an advanced air mobility company from Hyundai Motor Group ( earlier post ). Supernal is developing electric, autonomous air vehicles capable of accommodating four to five passengers with the intent to launch commercial flights as early as 2028.

Firestone is rolling out expanded services for EV and hybrid drivers at certain service centers, as well as EV charging, parent Bridgestone announced Tuesday in a press release. A total of 44 service centers in Austin and San Francisco will now offer "inspections, diagnostics, maintenance and repairs" of high-voltage components for both hybrids.

Bentley Motors will launch five new electric cars from 2025. Bentley also revealed a £2.5-billion (US$3.4-billion) sustainable investment to realize this strategy. From 2025, the first Bentley electric vehicle will be designed, developed and produced at its headquarters in Crewe, England. Crewe is to become a “Dream Factory”— a digital, zero environmental impact, flexible and high-value manufacturing facility.

Bentley on Wednesday confirmed that its first electric car will roll off an assembly line at the automaker's existing factory site in 2025. The automaker previously said it would unveil an all-electric model by that year, but now says it will actually start building the car in 2025 and is making investments to upgrade its Crewe, England, factory.

The percentage of vehicle owners using the app of the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) continues to increase year-over-year, with 38% of respondents indicating that they use the app at least half of the time that they drive, according to the J.D. Power 2021 US OEM ICE Benchmark Study. The usage rate is highest for domestic OEMs with almost 50% of their owners using it half of the time and 27% saying they use it each time that they drive.
