Volkswagen Group Logistics will be using certified fuel from vegetable residues for certain new car shipments via marine routes. The fuel is produced from materials such as used oil from restaurants and the food industry. The first car freighter was refueled for the first time with this oil in mid-November 2020 and a second ship is due to follow at the beginning of 2021.

The 2022 Nissan Ariya is due in summer 2021, and last week at a studio in Los Angeles we finally got some face time with the battery-electric SUV in prototype form. Tesla is issuing recalls for the Model X and Model Y electric crossovers over separate issues—both related to errors during assembly. The Model X recall, which affects 9,136 cars, addresses improperly-fitted "cosmetic appliqué" pieces at the front of the roof just behind the windshield, and at the center of the roof between the upper.

At the beginning of October, series production for battery-electric city buses started successfully at the MAN plant in Starachowice, Poland, beginning with the Lion’s City E in the 12-meter solo version. The first customer vehicles are now rolling off the assembly line for the Hamburg Holstein transport company (VHH). The fully electric Lion’s City E as an articulated bus will follow around six months later and should go into series production in the first half of 2021.

SEAT has invested more than €30 million in recent years to create the most advanced powertrain test center in southern Europe. The facilities are equipped with nine multi-energy test benches, which enable different types of tests to be carried out on internal combustion, electric, hybrid and CNG engines, with the aim of ensuring that they meet the quality, CO 2 and other emissions, durability and performance requirements committed to throughout their life cycle.
