Stellantis, the world’s number-three carmaker, has unveiled its new battery electric vehicle (BEV) platform which will be the basis for eight new electric vehicles launched across five of its brands, starting with Dodge and Jeep.
The STLA Large platform is one of four BEV-specific platforms Stellantis promised on its EV Day 2021, and the second to be launched after the company unveiled the STLA Medium in July of 2023.
Promising an impressive range of 800 kilometres for sedans, charging efficiency of 4.5kWh per minute, and acceleration from 0-100km/h in the 2-seconds range, STLA Large will be available in both 400-volt and 800-bolt architectures.
Two battery pack options with energy ratings between 85kWh and 118kWh will initially be available, and STLA Large will be able to incorporate three-in-one electric drive modules that can be configured for front-wheel-drive, rear-wheel-drive, and all-wheel-drive layouts.
Stellantis promises that STLA Large will be “the most flexible BEV-native platform in the industry” and capable of underpinning car, crossover, and SUV vehicle types. See a YouTube video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fH3-Mvtj_ac
“Our goals for our STLA platforms are ambitious but this is what our customers need from us today,” said Carlos Tavares, Stellantis CEO.
“Creating a family of vehicles from a well-engineered set of components that is flexible enough to cover multiple vehicle types and propulsions, overperforming any of our current products, will address each of our iconic brands’ customers.
“The flexibility and agility of this platform is its hallmark and will be a driving force for our success in the shift to electrification in North America.”
STLA Large will range in length from 4,764-5,126mm and 1,897-2,030mm in width, with a wheelbase range of between 2,870-3,075mm.
In addition to STLA Medium and Large, Stellantis is planning to also unveil BEV platforms for Small and Frame.
