General Motors issued a short statement announcing that it is proceeding to the next step with respect to the sale of Saturn. A number of potential buyers have surfaced and expressed interest in the Saturn brand and retailer network.

Having already taken the decision to close its Pontiac brand, General Motors has now announced that it will proceed with the sale of Saturn. Reports in the Detroit News suggest that GM would have a stake in the new company grouping Fiat, Chrysler and GME operations if the deal goes through.

From the pricey ads in national magazines devoting serious space to the Volt to today's announcement about the plug-in hybrid Saturn Vue, GM is compelling me to take their expressed interest in plug-in cars seriously. As announced in Frankfort and reported in Detroit , GM hopes for a 2009 release of the first Saturn Vue plug-in hybrid SUV.

DETROIT—Smart USA, the mini-car maker owned by Daimler AG, is launching a test fleet of electric vehicles this fall in select regions of the U.S. Smart brought in Lajdziak, the former chief of the Saturn brand for General Motors Co., is the most ambitious, with plans to sell as many as 150,000 electric cars in the U.S. Ford Motor Co.

The brand died in 2009 as GM declared bankruptcy, restructured with US government backing, and jettisoned not only Hummer but also Pontiac, Saab and Saturn. But the Hummer, approved in August 2018, will be the first one to start rolling off the lines at the Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant, late in 2021.
