Audi introduces new Q7 SUV, plug-in hybrid variant coming later this year

As promised (earlier post), Audi introduced the new Q7 at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. The revamped 7-seater SUV offers diverse drivetrain technologies (gasoline, diesel, plug-in hybrid), intelligent muti-material lightweight construction, and a full range of connectivity and electronics features.

The multimaterial mix of aluminum and steel results in an overall weight reduction of up to 325 kg (717 lbs), noted Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Member of the Board of Management of Audi AG, Technical Development, in his remarks at the show.

Later this year, Audi will introduce the Q7 e-tron quattro plug-in hybrid. The PHEV will have an all-electric range of more than 50 km (31 miles), and will be the first production plug-in hybrid powered by a 6-cylinder, 3.0-liter TDI diesel.
