The hybrid transaxle in the upcoming Lexus HS 250h hybrid sedan ( earlier post ) will use an electric transmission oil pump in place of a mechanical pump, further shifting ancillary loads from mechanical to electrical propulsion, according to Toyota.

The SAI reportedly will have the same basic structure as the recently introduced Lexus HS 250h, but with different exterior and interior designs. The SAI price is expected to fall between that of the Prius and the HS 250h. Kyodo News reports that Toyota Motor Corp.

After the unconvincing HS 250h, Lexus is fitting a new base hybrid sedan to its lineup. For a start, it shares Lexus' strong new design language with other recent arrivals, like the Lexus GS and LS-series models. The 2013 Lexus ES 300h is a much more convincing proposition.
