Omega Seiki to Manufacture Solid-State Batteries

Omega Seiki to Manufacture Solid-State Batteries

The government is continuously announcing incentives and schemes to improve the faster adoption of Electric Vehicles. But are the people ready to accept it? The common question that arises to a common customer when we speak about electric vehicles are, will it give a good range? How much time will it take to charge fully? After how many years I should change the battery? And finally, what is the total cost of the vehicle?

Even though the government announced many schemes on electric vehicles, the cost of the vehicles remains unaffordable to common people. What is the reason behind this? The main reason behind this is not all the parts of the vehicle are manufactured in India. After the Make in India scheme, almost all the parts of the vehicle except the battery pack is manufactured in India and resulted in cost reduction of the vehicle. but still, the costs need to be reduced.

A Delhi based start-up Omega Seiki formed by the company Anglian omega group of companies signed an MoU with a New York-based company C4V technologies to Manufacture Solid State Batteries in India.

Initially, the company will be supplying Bio mineralised lithium mixed metal phosphate battery (BM-LMP). This battery is free from toxic components such as nickel and cobalt. The energy density of this battery is said to be 200 wh/kg which is 20% more than the lithium ferrous phosphate batteries which are currently in the market. The company’s Solid-State Battery will be available from the second half of this year and the company is in talks with many state governments on establishing its manufacturing plant in India.

Unlike lithium-ion batteries, solid-state batteries come with a solid electrode and solid electrolyte. The main advantages of solid-state batteries are they are smaller in size with a faster charging time and they have a higher power density of 400 wh/kg. They are easy and safe to manufacture and has an improved life cycle when compared to the batteries which are in the market now.

Difference Between Conventional and Solid-State Battery

NYSERDA (New York State Energy Research and Development Authority) on testing this Solid-state battery for Lifecycle Assessment, reported that this battery technology leaves an 85% less carbon footprint. Omega Seiki also plans to export their vehicles fitted with these solid-state batteries.
