Tesla now has 7 EV variants approved in India

Tesla world’s most popular electric vehicle maker has received approval for three more electric vehicles in India. Tesla India Motors and Energy, the India subsidiary of Tesla Inc, has received a homologation certificate for three more models, making it a total of seven models to receive approval for India. However, the company did not give any timeline for the launch of these electric vehicles in the market. Earlier, Elon Musk the CEO of Tesla said that Tesla’s launch in India was imminent, but strong import tariffs have made it difficult. But the automaker plans to launch the vehicles lately. It had officially incorporated an Indian company from Bengaluru earlier this year.

Tesla 7 EV in India

In August, it received homologation certificates for four of its car models and now three more were added to the list. A few Tesla test units have been regularly navigating through local roads in India. Musk said that the Tesla factory in India might be possible if Tesla were to succeed with imported vehicles.

 100,000 Tesla Model 3 cars order

In October, Tesla had announced that it has received a huge order for 100,000 Tesla Model 3 cars from Hertz Global Holdings Inc which is a huge first step toward electrifying its rental-car fleet and in the process mainstreaming EVs.

The company joins trillion-dollar market cap companies like Apple, Amazon and Microsoft. It represents around $4.2 billion in revenue for Tesla. Tesla shares surged as much as 14.9 per cent to $1,045.02, making it the world’s most valuable automaker.

It urged the Prime Minister’s Office to cut down the import taxes on electric vehicles before it enters the market. Tesla wants to start selling imported cars in India this year but it says taxes in India is very high among the highest in the world. In July it requests tax cuts and prompted objections from several local players who said that it would discourage investment in domestic manufacturing.
