A few items before I head out to Black Rock City for two weeks. Although Black Rock City probably has the worst air in the west during its brief annual existence, it is where I had my first electric transport epiphany. As Burning Man attempts to go green, here's to hoping they become the first American City to ban the internal combustion engine within its borders. nk City cars when Ford brought them to California to meet its ZEV Mandate obligation.

ITOCHU Takes Equity Stake in THINK; Expanded Partnership for THINK EV and Drive System in Asia

THINK and ITOCHU Corporation announced an expanded partnership for marketing and distribution of the THINK City electric vehicle (EV) and EV drive system in Asia. Following the success of these projects, ITOCHU has made a $5-million initial investment in THINK to formalize the partnership and further develop marketing and distribution opportunities for THINK’s urban vehicle and drive-train business lines in Asia. THINK Releases US EV-Ready Cities Index

Electric vehicle maker THINK released its first US EV-Ready Cities Index. The top four cities included first-ranked Los Angeles and second-ranked San Francisco with Chicago and New York tied for third. The THINK EV-Ready Cities Index was presented by THINK CEO Richard Canny at the Electric Drive Transportation Association Annual Conference and Meeting at the Washington Auto Show. Clearly they do not intend on replacing those vehicles which is a shame because they make up a majority of the postal service vehicles in my city.

President Obama issues Memorandum on Federal fleet performance to push for alternative fueled vehicles; GSA pilot project on EV purchases

These vehicles will be leased to 20 agencies, including the Department of Energy, and will be located in Washington, DC; Detroit, MI; Los Angeles, CA; San Diego, CA; and San Francisco, CA. Contracts were awarded for Chevrolet, Nissan, and Think City vehicles.

President Obama Awards $2.3B for Tax Credits for New Clean-Tech Manufacturing Jobs; GE Gets Largest Battery-related Award

Aeroenvironment plans to manufacture a Mobile Charger that combines a battery pack with a Level 3 DC connector. President Obama announced the award of $2.3 billion in Recovery Act Advanced Energy Manufacturing Tax Credits for clean energy manufacturing projects across the United States. The 183 projects in 43 states include several for the manufacturing of advanced batteries; biomass projects; and vehicles. The projects were competitively selected through a merit review process.
