The big takeaway: If you want a free charge station and are located in a program area (Austin, Los Angeles, New York, Orlando, Sacramento, San Jose/San Francisco Bay Area, Bellevue/Redmond, Washington DC, Southern Michigan), raise your hand now. I think it makes sense for public resources to drive the early rollout. But for whom?

Bill lives a good 60 miles from San Francisco, so he needs to get some juice to make his trip home after work. Bill likes his car and is resourceful, so he got a Blink card and ChargePoint card and an EVGO card and he makes do. That’s why I ran into him at the Whole Food DC charger.

A visit to the gas station takes minutes not seconds and so the California Air Resource board, when it established fast charging standards, set the goal of charging the batteries to 80% in 10 minutes. One of the biggest reasons is that we don’t need to charge batteries in 2 seconds, as useful as that would be.
