GE’s ecomagination.com publication reports that GE engineers have begun testing a transit bus equipped with a new hybrid energy system integrating GE’s Durathon sodium-halide battery ( earlier post ), a lithium-ion battery and a hydrogen fuel cell.

Horizon Fuel Cell Technologies will introduce a “personal hydrogen station”—HydroFill—at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week. The device consumes 60W DC per hour to produce 10 liters of hydrogen (0.001 kg) per hour, enough to fill a HydroStik metal hydride storage cartridge.

PARC’s proposed approach captures CO 2 from the air and reacts it with hydrogen produced via the electrolysis of water to produce liquid hydrocarbon fuels. The technique uses a solvent such as sodium or potassium hydroxides, converted by reacting with CO 2 to aqueous carbonates or bicarbonates.
