The technology takes energy from the grid and converts it to direct current (DC) voltage. Once the energy is transferred to the secondary coil across the air gap it is converted back to DC, charging the vehicle’s battery pack. UPS appreciates the Department of Energy’s support on this effort.

At the Zwickau vehicle plant, Volkswagen commissioned the first fast-charging park in Saxony supplied with energy largely from a power storage container (PSC). The PSC is an electricity storage unit and consists of 96 cell modules with a net capacity of 570 kWh.

Electric motor/generator (I-SAM). ESS (Electrical Storage System). The bus runs primarily in electric mode. To enable full electric drive, the bus is equipped with electric power steering; an electrical air compressor ; and a DC/DC unit that converts 600 V power to 24 V power.
