Reva Electric Car Company (RECC), the manufacturer of the REVA electric car, is building a new assembly plant in Bangalore, India with a capacity of 30,000 units per year, to accommodate the increased production of the REVA and for the planned one new model per year from the end of 2009.

REVA is available in the following European countries: United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, Spain, Norway, Greece, Cyprus, France and Belgium. The current model, REVAi, marketed in the UK as G-Wiz i, has a range of up to 80 km and a top speed of 80 km/h. A full charge takes eight hours and an 80% charge takes 2.5 hours. The new lithium-ion powered REVA L-ion, announced in January, goes into production in May and offers improved acceleration, a range of 120 km, six hours standard charge and a one hour fast charge to 90%. (Earlier post.)

There are more than 2,000 REVA electric cars already on the roads in London and Bangalore, with a distribution network being built up across Europe, South America and parts of Asia. REVA’s aim is to launch one new electric car per year from 2009 and working through distributors, will be developing a range of sales and after-sales operating models appropriate to each country.

The new 18,212 m2 production facility is being built to the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) green building rating system standard. The facilities will include rainwater harvesting, natural light and ventilation, solar energy harvesting, steel structure technology and a C02 monitor.

REVA is a Bangalore-based company formed as a joint venture between Maini Group of India and AEV LLC of California and is venture-backed by lead US investors Global Environment Fund and Draper Fisher Jurveston.
