Volvo reports selling out first batch of V60 Plug-in Hybrids

At the 2012 Paris Motor Show, Volvo Car Corporation reported that it has sold out the first batch of the diesel-electric Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid (earlier post) before the car has reached the showrooms. The Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid is the result of close cooperation between Volvo Car and Swedish electricity supplier Vattenfall. The two companies financed the development project jointly.
After this initial batch of 1,000 cars for model year 2013, production of the V60 Plug-in Hybrid will increase to 5,000 cars as of model year 2014.
Fuel consumption is 1.8 l/100 km (131 mpg US), or 48 gCO2/km, in Hybrid mode. In addition, the driver can choose to cover up to 50 kilometers on electric power, or combine the capacity of the diesel engine and electric motor to create a driving machine with 215+70 horsepower, 440+200 N·m of torque and acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 6.1 seconds.
A real muscle car that many of our neighbors will like.

Again, excrutiatingly slow roll out of the vehicles. At least it just not the North American car companies that are frightened by the future. I suppose it never occurred to them that if they have sold out, they should make more in 2013. Oh yes, that right, why would anyone make as many as there is demand for. We don't want the consumers getting the idea that they can get what they want.

I suppose it never occurred that all these excrutiatingly slow roll outs are because "affordable" batteries are still not here.
The Prius, Volt and Leaf, even with heavy gov subsidies, still enjoy only marginal sales.
I wish it were not true also, but let's not be too paranoid about it.

Toyota sold just 323 Prius in 1997 when it first came out.
Now it is the third top selling car in the world. Give these time.
