RAND reports suggest US DoD use less petroleum fuel to deal with high prices, not count on alternatives

According to three new reports on “Promoting International Energy Security” issued by the RAND Corporation, because the energy purchases made by the US Department of Defense are not large enough to influence world oil prices—despite DoD requiring considerable amounts of fuel to function—cutting fuel use is the only effective choice to reduce what the Pentagon spends on petroleum fuels. In this case, we would expect petroleum prices to rise considerably.

ExxonMobil adds 2.7B barrels oil equivalent to reserves; replaces 183% of 2017 production

Exxon Mobil Corporation added 2.7 Consistent with SEC requirements, ExxonMobil reports reserves based on the average of the applicable market price prevailing on the first day of each calendar month during the year. As a result of higher prices in 2017 relative to 2016, about 900 million oil-equivalent barrels in North America qualified as proved reserves under SEC guidelines due primarily to the extension of the projected economic end-of-field-life.
