The Mitsubishi i-MiEV was, by many assessments, a pioneer as a dedicated electric vehicle. It was intended to be mass-produced, not a simple conversion, and widely available (at least in some markets). What was the first mass-produced electric vehicle, after the GM EV1? No, it’s not the Nissan Leaf.

Electric vehicle manufacturer Think Global and Ener1, one of its battery partners, are supplying a fully integrated electric drivetrain powered by a lithium-ion battery system to Japan Post for the conversion of delivery vehicles as part of a comprehensive road-testing program. purchase price of the 2010 i-MiEV would be a hefty £33,699 ($50,465). With prices for plug-in vehicles on the high side for the foreseeable future, is conversion a better solution for drivers who don't want to wait to plug in? Granted, the Mitsubishi i-MiEV qualifies for a U.K. government grant.

C40 is about action, and I commend Bogota for taking this decisive step to implement innovative new transport policies that will improve the quality of life in the city and address climate change. Electric vehicle suppliers BYD and Mitsubishi have expressed their commitment to provide e6 and i-MiEV electric cars, respectively.
